I graduated from Westminster College in December 2019 with plans to hit the ground running in the professional world. During college, I interned at two companies that helped expand my knowledge and help me find my true passions–writing and social media management.
At the Pittsburgh Downtown CDC, I wrote multiple articles each week for two email newsletters, The Downtowner and Pittsburgh Fashion Alert. I was given the task of taking a topic through the planning, research, writing, and editing stages. Often, I wrote articles start to finish in less than one week, so tight deadlines are second nature to me. For particular articles, I reached out to business leaders in the Downtown area to schedule and conduct interviews. This internship helped strengthen my writing and interpersonal skills immensely.
In the summer of 2019 I was a social media intern at Aware Inc., Mercer County’s Domestic and Sexual Assault Agency. I created a personalized social media plan to use on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. I was also the sole person in charge of posting daily on each social media platform. I worked based off a weekly social media calendar and was responsible for creating copy, generating graphics, and scheduling posts. I accomplished all this in the 12 hours a week I spent on site.
At the beginning of this year I started a travel consultant position with Liberty Travel. The time I spent with them was rewarding and challenging. I loved having the ability to use my passion for travel in my everyday work environment. As I used the sales techniques of the company and began the planning phases of a self-marketing social campaign, I could see a bright future ahead of me. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 crisis I was subject to a company-wide indefinite layoff.
My next step is to find a position as a writer, content marketer, or social media manager for another company I love. I am self-motivated and love to learn new things. Whatever your company needs, I’ll find a way to do it. I look forward to speaking with you in the future.
